Holiday Season 2025 at the GFB
The Holidays at the GFB!
Join us this December for the 2025 Holiday Season. We have a busy month jam-packed with events, fundraisers, prizes, and festivities!
Did you know?
The Golden Food Bank serves over 200 households a month. We’ve distributed over 2,000 hampers in 2025 to more than 700 households. In a town of 4,000, that’s a considerable number of our neighbours that are relying on us.
The Golden Food Bank is a nonprofit charity that relies on community support to run its programs. We do not receive on-going or core government funding, meaning we rely on your donations to keep the doors open, the lights on, and our community fed.
Want to get involved this December? Here’s what we’ve got going on!
CPKC Holiday Train
Join us at the CP Parking Lot (opposite 7-11) on Tuesday, December 16th at 8:30pm to welcome in the HOLIDAY TRAIN!
Live music featuring the Barenaked Ladies. We have cookies, we have hot chocolate, we even have Santa!
Cookies and hot chocolate are available by donation to the Golden Food Bank, so please bring some cash!
Always wanted to ride the Holiday Train? Now’s your chance!
Donate to our Virtual Food Drive for a chance to win tickets to ride!
The Golden Food Bank has two tickets to give away, and we want to share them. The lucky winner will receive two tickets to ride from Radium to Golden!

Holiday Dinner 50/50
This year, the Golden Food Bank aims to provide Christmas Dinner for 100 local households in need. Neighbours who otherwise would be going without.
This is no small feat, and we need your help! We’re running a 50/50 Raffle to raise funds for the Christmas Dinner Kits. Winner announced Christmas Day!
The raffle goes live on December 8th. Purchase your tickets here: https://www.rafflebox.ca/raffle/goldenfoodbank

Gift one of our hugely popular Recipe of the Week Meal Kits. These super-affordable, Hello-Fresh-style meal kits are available to the whole community!
Not only is it a thoughtful (and delicious) gift, but it’s also a gift that gives twice:

Virtual Food Drive
Every year, we run a Virtual Food Drive (VFD). You can run one too!
We use VFDs to raise funds to purchase food instead of relying on physical donations. Why? Because GFB buys in bulk through partners, and we receive discounts from certain retailers and wholesalers. This means our dollar has increased buying-power!
Physical food donations also require a lot of staff and volunteer capacity to sort through.
If you’d like to run a Food Drive for us, consider a Virtual Food Drive instead. Staff support is available to help set up your page, create digital media, and produce QR codes to ensure your VFD’s success.
You can visit our Virtual Food Drive here: https://bcvfd.foodbank.bc.ca/team/gfbs

New team members!
You may have heard: we said adieu to some of our beloved staff members this year, and welcomed some new team players into the fold.
Monica De stepped into the role of Executive Director on September 2. She’s no stranger to the organization, having served two consecutive terms on our board. Monica brings extensive experience in both the public and nonprofit sectors, most recently as the program coordinator for the Rocky Mountain International Student Program (SD6) and as literacy coordinator with the Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy.
Joining her is Tamara Holmes, our new Program Manager, who brings a background rich in community programming, food service, and education. Tamara previously coordinated Local Food Matters’ Weathered Wisdom Project and has been a familiar face at community fundraisers such as Farm-to-Table dinners and United Way events.
Missing our Harvest Dinner?
Save the date for May 8, 2026 and keep your eyes peeled for more info about our Spring Gala!
Community BBQ & AGM
Join us in the GFB garden for a Community BBQ to connect with neighbours and community members! We’ll be serving up delicious burgers, pop, hot drinks, and tasty snacks, prepared and served by Golden Food Bank staff & volunteers!
Dinner will be by donation - suggested amount for singles, $10; couples, $20; family, $30
There will also be lawn games to enjoy, so bring your family and friends for some fun in the sun!
Following the BBQ, we’ll hold our Annual General Meeting from 6:00 PM. This is a great opportunity to hear about our achievements over the past year and discuss the exciting things ahead for our community. Voting in the AGM requires membership of the Golden Food Bank Society - Community members are invited to join the GFBS on the day. The cost of membership is sliding scale $0-$10 for lifetime membership.
We can't wait to celebrate and connect with you all. Please RSVP to help us plan so we can make sure there’s enough food and fun for everyone. 🌞
Everyone is welcome! This event is open to all residents of Golden and Area A, our community partners, advocates, donors and supporters. All proceeds raised will go toward our program and operating costs for 2025.
RSVP today! Get tickets at EventBrite: https://gfbbbq.eventbrite.ca

Seed Starting Workshop
Extend the growing season by starting seeds indoors: Thursday April 10th GFB Gardener Liz will be hosting a Seed Starting Workshop. You are invited!
Participants will learn about starting seeds indoors ahead of the garden season and get hands-on learning by starting their own tray to take home with them! Trays, soil, seeds are all supplied by the GFB. You do not need grow lights or a fancy set-up! Even though grow lights do help, a sunny south-facing window will also work!
The event will run 5:30pm-7:30pm, and will be either in the Golden Food Bank Garden or inside the Food Bank building, weather dependent.
To register for the event, please visit: https://gfbseeds2025.eventbrite.ca
The Seed to Supper Workshop Series is funded by a Columbia Basin Trust ReDi Grant, administered by the Town of Golden

2024 Holiday Fundraising Campaign
With the merry season upon us once again, the Golden Food Bank is launching our 2024 Holiday Fundraising Campaign! We are a nonprofit society and charity independent of core government funding, which means we rely on donations and grants to cover program and operating costs each year. Over fifty percent of our donations come in the month of December, meaning this is an incredibly important time that determines our capacity and budget for delivering food-access supports in the year ahead.
We are asking the community to donate to our fundraiser through the Food Banks BC Virtual Food Drive platform, consider signing up as a monthly donor through our CanadaHelps page, and we are accepting food and donations at our location (1407, 9th Street South) via cash, cheque, or card. Due to the ongoing Canada Postal Workers strike, we encourage donors to drop donations off rather than mailing them this year. Donations are accepted anytime during office hours Monday to Thursday, 10AM-4PM and until 6PM on Wednesdays until December 23rd. The Golden Food Bank will be closed from December 24th to 30th, and will re-open on December 31st.
To learn more, visit this blog post or download our Holiday Fundraising Guide.
Stay tuned to our Facebook and Instagram pages (@GoldenFoodBank) over the month of December, where we will be sharing yours and the community's progress!
Harvest Dinner Update
Harvest Dinner Update!
September is long past and we got quite a few messages asking us if we'd be hosting the Harvest Dinner Fundraiser again. The answer is yes, but not yet! We are looking towards the cold and quiet months of winter to gather together and enjoy a meal and merriment. If you are interested in joining the Winter Harvest Dinner volunteer planning committee, reach out to karen @goldenfoodbank.ca!
In the meantime... there are two wonderful events happening in November to raise funds for a great local cause:
Golden's Gatsby Gala is November 16th at the Mount 7 Rec Plex, an elegant evening of dinner and dancing in support of the Golden & District Hospital and Durand Manor. Tickets can be purchased at ekfh.ca/events/goldens-gatsby-gala
Cocktails for Critters is November 30th at the Golden Civic Center, in support of Little Mittens Animal Rescue! DJ and dancing, silent auction, prizes and much more. Tickets can be purchased at littlemittens.org/events
We encourage you to bust out your dancing shoes for either of these events, and we'll see you in the cold!

Amaze your family and friends this Thanksgiving, and leave that boxed pie at the grocery store! Join us at the GFB for a comprehensive introduction to safe canning where you'll learn the essentials of preserving fresh produce and more! This hands-on session in the Civic Center Kitchen covers key techniques such as water bath and pressure canning, safety practices, and essential equipment.
Extra Food distribution day & Dogtooth Wildfire Response
The Golden Food Bank will be open for an additional distribution day on Monday, July 29th from 12pm to 6pm to provide food relief for residents in need.
Neighbours Affordable Market Open House
Neighbours Market is a pilot program to support 30 local households struggling with the high cost of living and affording nutritious food. The market offers ready-made “HelloFresh” style meal kits and baking kits, fresh produce, and grocery staples at a significantly subsidized price. Spaces in the program are filled through referrals from local health and nonprofit agencies, but we also want to create awareness in the wider community for residents who might not be connected to these supports.
Building a Lasagna Garden
Join garden guru Karen Temple Beamish, whilst we fill up our brand new greenhouse beds, and hear her stories of tremendous success growing hundreds of kilograms of produce using simple organic waste.
Golden Threads - Weaving a Stronger Community
