The Golden Food Bank will be open for an additional distribution day on Monday, July 29th from 12pm to 6pm to provide food relief for residents in need.
Community members who currently access our emergency food hamper program or are temporarily in need of support as a result of the wildfire and evacuation alerts are welcome to come in on Monday to access a hamper or meal-kit. We are also able to receive donations of non-perishables and other essentials during this time.
We will be open at regular program times for the rest of the week, unless the situation with the wildfire worsens. It is possible that programming would be suspended, and we want to give people an opportunity to collect their hamper earlier this week as part of their preparation.
We have also secured additional support through United Way BC Emergency Response to provide food vouchers if people are displaced and vulnerable. These vouchers may be distributed by us directly or through community partners and will help ensure folks still have access to food relief in the event the food bank has to close.
Lastly, we want to encourage anyone who might experience financial stress in the case of an evacuation to pre-register on the BC Services App. By registering you will be able to access funds for accommodations, meals, and other incidentals while evacuated. You must be under an evacuation ORDER to access these funds, but registering through the app now and having your identity verified at ServiceBC will help prevent delays. The Reception Centre at the Golden Senior Centre is open daily from noon to 4 p.m and happy to assist you.
