GFB Launches 2025 Holiday Fundraising Campaign!

Spread cheer this holiday season by supporting food access in our community!

With the festive season upon us once again, Golden Food Bank is proud to launch our 2025 Holiday Fundraising Campaign! As a nonprofit society and registered charity independent of core government funding, we rely on community donations and grants to sustain our programs and keep food accessible year-round. December continues to be our most important fundraising month - over half of our annual donations arrive during the holiday season, directly shaping our capacity for the year ahead.

Food bank use across Canada remains at record levels, with the cost of living and food prices showing little sign of easing in 2025. Many households in Golden and Area A continue to face affordability challenges, and demand for our services remains high.

In 2025, we continue to support hundreds of households through our Emergency Food Access Program, as well as our Recipe of the Week Meal Kit Program, and Food Rescue Days. These programs expand access, reduce food waste, and help ensure that healthy food reaches more people in our community.

Every hamper we distribute contains essentials like fresh produce, dairy, meat, dry goods, diapers, toiletries, and formula. This is food that may otherwise be out of reach for many families. Your generosity directly puts these items on tables across Golden.

Together, we continue to make a meaningful impact.

We need your support now more than ever

Our food access programs are driven by the power of community. Your contributions, whether through online donations, food drives, or fundraising events, ensure we can continue meeting growing need throughout 2025.

To help you get involved, we’ve created our updated 2025 Holiday Fundraising Guide. It includes ideas for hosting your own fundraiser, information about our areas of greatest need, and ways to build momentum in your workplace, business, club, or social circle.

If you are organizing a fundraiser on our behalf, we are happy to support you with logos, branding, messaging, posters, and cross-promotion on social media and in our newsletter.

Raise funds with a Virtual Food Drive

Setting up a Virtual Food Drive is one of the easiest and most impactful ways to support the GFB.

In just a few minutes:

  1. Visit www.bit.ly/GFBS2025

  2. Click “Join Team” on our Holiday Fundraiser page

  3. Register your team and begin collecting donations

Virtual donations are tax-deductible, and donors automatically receive a tax receipt. Staff are available to help you get set up at info@goldenfoodbank.ca.

Fun ways to boost participation…

  • Offer a raffle prize for donors
(A popular example: Kicking Horse’s annual First Day Gondola raffle)

  • Match donations from employees, customers, or friends

  • Challenge another business or community group to a friendly fundraising competition
Incentives consistently increase donations—and participants love the spirit of friendly giving.

If you’d like help designing your fundraising page, creating posters, or aligning your graphics with GFB branding, reach out to us anytime.

Donate online

Your donations keep our food access programs running. Monthly donors help us purchase fresh staples like milk, eggs, and produce every month.

Donate at: www.bit.ly/goldenhelps

We also accept food donations

If you have food to donate or are organizing a community food drive, please keep the following in mind:

We cannot accept:

  • Open, expired, or damaged items

  • Homemade food

  • Items significantly past best-before dates

Sorting donated food takes time and storage space, so if you’re hosting a drive, consider asking for monetary donations, which allow us to use bulk-buying power to purchase nutritious staples and cover essential program costs.

Our most-needed items are:

  • Toilet paper

  • Personal hygiene + cleaning products

  • Baby diapers and formula

  • Canned vegetables and fruit

  • Seasonings, herbs, cooking oil, and baking ingredients

  • Gluten-free and vegetarian items

  • Snack items (granola bars, fruit cups)

  • Peanut butter

  • Pet food

Don’t want to donate online?

We accept donations via cash, cheque, or card onsite and provide a tax receipt for all donations over $20. Due to the ongoing Canada Postal Workers strike, we encourage donors to drop donations off rather than mailing them this year. Food and other donations are accepted anytime during office hours Monday to Thursday, 10AM-4PM. The Golden Food Bank will be closed from December 22nd to January 6th, with the exception of regular food distribution on Tuesday December 23rd, and Tuesday 30th December, from 1pm to 5pm.

On behalf of our staff, volunteers, Board of Directors, and community we serve - thank you in advance for supporting the Golden Food Bank's Holiday Fundraising Campaign, helping us make sure that everyone in our community has access to fresh and healthy food year-round!
