Food Recovery
Our Food Recovery Program is run through partnerships with local businesses and provincial food bank networks who have food that is still safe to eat but can no longer be sold.
Recovered food is picked up daily, inspected for quality and delivered to the GFB to be processed by our staff and volunteers. Food is also transported from larger food banks in urban centers.
Our Partners:
SAVE ON FOODS (7 DAYS/WEEK!)
DALEY BREAD
MUSHROOM WILL
IGA
CALGARY FOOD BANK
CENTRAL OKANAGAN FOOD BANK
AND MORE!

Food recovery on wheels!
In 2024, we added a fully-electric cargo van to the GFB family to support daily food recovery pick-ups from local businesses, food hamper delivery, and other food transport needs. The van and onsite charging station were 100% funded through a Columbia Basin Trust Nonprofit SMART grant, CleanBC Go Electric Rebate, and Federal iMHZEV incentive program.
We are very grateful to the team at Kicking Horse Ford, who were an incredible support through the purchase process and have set us up with a sponsorship and 5-Year Maintenance package. We are proud to be partnering with Local Food Matters on a shared-use agreement for the van to support the Glean Golden Community Fruit Picking Service and transport needs for the Golden Farmers Market.
We have a local artist working on a decal, and are seeking additional business sponsorships to help cover ongoing operating costs and an asset management plan. To learn more about this opportunity and how your business would be represented on the van and artwork, inquire with julia@goldenfoodbank.ca.

No! The food we receive from local businesses and through larger food banks is passed on at no cost through our programs. The $10 price of our meal kits covers some of the costs for purchased ingredients, packaging and our time to prepare the kit. Items for sale through the Affordable market have been purchased or provided by local businesses on the understanding it will be sold at a heavily discounted price.
