The Golden Food Bank is Recruiting for Our Board of Directors!

The Golden Food Bank’s mission is to provide food security and build sustainable solutions to hunger in Golden and Area A. As we reflect on our accomplishments in the past year, we are deeply grateful for the support of our community, including our dedicated donors, volunteers, and partners. Together, we've made an incredible impact, and as we continue to grow, we are seeking passionate and committed individuals to join our Board of Directors and help guide our next phase of development.

Why Join Our Board?

As we move forward, the need for strategic leadership has never been greater. Our Board of Directors plays a vital role in overseeing the direction of the Golden Food Bank. Board members help shape our strategic goals, advocate for our mission, and serve as ambassadors for our work. If you are passionate about food security, community development, and creating long-term solutions to hunger, this is an incredible opportunity to make a tangible difference.

Who We Are:

The Golden Food Bank is more than just a provider of food; we are a hub for community collaboration and change. In 2024, we served those most in need while working toward long-term solutions to food insecurity. Our efforts have included working on a regional Food Procurement Network and a Poverty Reduction Strategy for Golden and Area A, which will help tackle the root causes of food insecurity.

This is your chance to be part of something exciting and impactful. By joining our Board, you will play a key role in shaping the future of the Golden Food Bank and ensuring that our work continues to meet the evolving needs of our community.

Our Impact Over The Last Year:

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, 2024 has been a year of both growth and adaptation. We served 516 households, providing over 3,000 hampers—more than double the number we served just a few years ago. Over 650 community members accessed our food programs, and we now support 16.5% of Golden’s population, a clear sign of the increasing food insecurity and affordability challenges in our region.

Despite rising food costs and a decline in donations, we have implemented innovative strategies to meet the growing need. We introduced Food Rescue Days, expanded our Meal Kit program to offer nutritious options at an affordable price, and collaborated with neighboring food banks to strengthen our supply chain. Additionally, a new partnership with the Town of Golden and the CSRD has secured $15,000 in funding for locally grown and raised produce, ensuring that our programs are both sustainable and community-focused.

The Role & Commitment:

As a Board member, you will commit a minimum of 5 hours per month, including attending monthly meetings, preparing for them, and engaging in committee tasks. Executive members may contribute between 10-15 hours per month, depending on the activities at hand. This is an unpaid volunteer position.

We are looking for candidates with the following skills and attributes:

  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • A deep understanding of food insecurity, poverty, and a desire to work toward justice-oriented solutions

  • A willingness to collaborate and engage with others

  • Experience in community development, strategic planning, financial management, or food systems is an asset, but not required
