An important update on our Meal Kit program!
Dear community,
Thank you for your patience while we took some time to evaluate this program after a very busy end to the year! Your response has been incredible, and we love hearing what these meals have meant to you and your families.
The initial grant we had to create the meal kit program completed in December. This pilot funding was an incredible opportunity to try something new, while collecting data about what could be sustainable in the long term.
We’ve spent the last few weeks looking at the resources that go into making the program possible, and assessing how increasing food costs impact things moving forward. The good news is we do have a new source of funding, albeit smaller, to keep the program going in 2025.
Together we can keep delicious and nutritious meals cooking up in your kitchens! Here are some changes coming to the program:
Our actual cost for purchased ingredients worked out to $15/kit, even with our supplier discounts. Without significant grant funding to subsidize the food we purchase along with other costs like packaging and staff time, we’d be running at a loss.
Effective January 27th, Meal Kits will be available for a base price of $15/kit.For those who are able to pay the donation price, you are an important part of what makes this program affordable for others! Payments above $15 support the overhead costs of running the program. Moving forward, the suggested donation price will be $25-35/kit. Thank you for paying what you can!
The variety of recipes offered will slow down a bit, and you might see certain recipes repeat more often.
We will introduce more plant-based options.
Volunteers make it happen! If you have time to give, sign up here!
Weekly emails and social media posts with the kits we have available will resume this coming Monday.
Our open hours to pick up meals kits will be 10am to 5pm, Monday to Thursday.
We will continue to apply for the grants that make it possible for us to meet the incredible level of demand we have for this program. Your stories about how the meal kits have impacted you and your families is what our funders need to hear! Next week we will be sending out a feedback survey for you to complete - please look for this in your inbox and take some time to respond.
As always, we are here to support you with food however we can. If this program is not meeting your needs, please reach out. Food insecurity can impact us all at different times in our lives and for different reasons. We are here to help.
Thank you for your understanding and support!
